Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves review
Rating: EXCELLENT. A fun adventure with enjoyable characters that is solidly located in Forgotten Realms lore. Indeed, though some license is taken in the details (e.g. the druid wildshapes into a magical beast), there may be too much name-dropping for non-D&D fans ... but I quite enjoyed it.
The producers paid a lot of money to squeeze plenty of action, plot, characterization, and humor into one movie, and it is quite reverential toward the source material.
Woke level: LOW. As in much fiction since the late 20th century, there are female fighters who are stronger than their male counterparts, a male character or two is overly effeminate, every location is more multi-racial than a San Francisco slum, and there is one notable, Marxist race-swap of a canonical character. However, I did not detect ANY heterophobia, and there are no perfect characters of any race or sex.
Recommendation: SEE IT on the big screen, and let me know what you thought of it!
